After going through a hat trick of delays (1, 2, 3) the highly-anticipated PC port of the Falcom action PRG Ys VIII finally released on PC and with it came a plethora of issues that plagued the launch.
When Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana was delayed to a general 2018 window, NIS America mentioned that in addition to the localization issues, they were having trouble with low framerate issues and memory leak problems in earlier PC builds, but it appears that those weren’t the only issues for the game as it currently sits at “Mostly Negative” reviews on Steam.
To give you an idea, here’s a bit from the top upvoted review:
It’s a lazy PS4 port through and through; barebone graphical options, fixed internal resolution (as in, the render resolution doesn’t change along with the screen resolution, so your PC will use the same resources on 640×480 or 4K. It doesn’t matter), gamepad issues, horrendous keyboard+mouse support… A Dark Souls 1 PC tier port, if you want a comparison.
The most problematic issue would be the internal resolution being fixed, because it limits a lot what kind of machines the game can be run in, so don’t trust the system requirements; they don’t state this detail.
NIS America provided a statement on Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana’s “Day 1 Report & Known Issues:
