In addition to improved frame rates and graphics on the PlayStation 4 version of Ys VIII, it has some “secret elements” with extra features and contents that Falcom recently shared.
The first of the secret elements are the extra dungeons you get for Adol in your second playthrough after clearing the game’s story. These dungeons appear on Siren Island and will feature some pretty tough enemies for you to fight.
This next secret element is another one for the second playthrough, where after “meeting certain conditions,” you’re able to get special accessories that lets you modify attack attributes in “Slash,” “Hit,” and “Shoot.” You can use these accessories to balance things out and further customize your party to your liking.
After getting the attack attribute-modifying accessories, you’ll get the option to change the number of party members, which is the third secret element. To put it simply, instead of the standard 3-man group, you can go with two people or just solo as Adol.
And finally, Falcom also shared that those with the PS Vita version of Ys VIII will get access to the “Attack Attribute Accessories” and “Party Member Number Change Function” right off the bat without having to beat the game first. They’ll also get special items and accessories as part of a DLC set that will help out in the early to middle parts of the game.
Ys VIII releases in North America and Europe in Fall 2017 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PC. The PlayStation 4 version of the game launches in Japan on May 25, 2017.
