Up until now, all Nintendo eShop purchases were final, but the latest update now allows you to cancel pre-orders up to seven days before release.
The above graph from the Japanese official website gives us a look at a before-and-after difference in pre-ordering on the Nintendo eShop. Previously, pre-order cancellation wasn’t possible and payments processed at the time of order. After the update, users will get to cancel pre-orders up until seven days before the release of the game. Once it goes into the seven days, pre-orders will no longer be possible.
The graph also mentions that there will be no changes in being able to play the game when it releases. That means you’ll still get to download and play the game the moment it releases.
Nintendo of America also updated its “About Pre-Orders” section to reflect the change in eShop cancels. Here’s what it says about payment:
“The required funds will automatically be paid out of available funds at the time of payment. The expected payment date is no sooner than seven days before the product is released. (For bundles with different product release dates, payment will be processed no sooner than seven days before the first product release.)”
If you’re not sure about the expected payment date and how to cancel pre-orders, here’s what it says on that:
“You may cancel your pre‑orders up until time of payment.
You can check the product’s expected payment date by selecting Shop Menu in your Nintendo Account settings then selecting Your Pre-orders, or via Your Pre‑orders under Account Information on Nintendo eShop on your device.”
Previously, all sales including pre-purchases were final.
