The PS Vita and PC survival horror game Yomawari: Night Alone is getting a sequel called Yomawari: Midnight Shadows. Nippon Ichi shares new screenshots and details on how the upcoming title plays.
It’s around the end of summer, when the two young girls went to the mountains to watch fireworks.
However, as it got darker the two are unable to find their way back. And the moment they let go of each other’s hands, they got separated.
The two young girls summon up the courage as they explore the night of an eerie town that feels like someone is lurking in the shadows.
Yui and Haru
Yomawari: Midnight Shadows is an action game with two girls who are out to explore the eerie night of a town. After going to the fireworks display the two girls lost each other, and they must now find each other in a town that is completely different at night.
The story progresses through the perspectives of both Yui and Haru. While they are separated, things you do as one girl may actually help the other, as their stories overlap.
The girls will only have a “flashlight” as their only source of light. This will come in handy while exploring and finding “something.”
Similar to the previous game, we’ll see all kinds of different “monsters” hiding about in the mountain shades, street corners, and beneath street lamps. At times, these monsters will even attack the girls with ill-intent.
Keep in mind that these monsters aren’t always visible, so you’ll need to listen out for the young girl’s heartbeat. You can run away, use items, hide in the shadows to keep away from monsters.
In Yowamari: Midnight Shadows, we’ll see new interior stages such as libraries and vacant houses, boasting a map that is said to be about double the size of the first Yomawari.
With the newly evolved graphics, another new feature is the side-view perspective parts to go along with the regular isometric angle in the game. This side-view map style will provide us with another look at mountains and townscapes in the background for an extra sense of depth.
And finally, the above is a sample of the limited edition version for Japan. It features a special box with transparent sleeve, an art book (191mm x 135mm) featuring art from Yomawari: Night Alone and Yomawari: Midnight Shadows. It also comes with a short prequel story that switches between Yui and Haru’s parts.
Yomawari: Midnight Shadows releases in Japan on August 24, 2017. The game releases in the West in Fall 2017 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PC.
