Today is the 20th anniversary of Final Fantasy VIII but it also happens to share an anniversary date with another classic PlayStation RPG, Xenogears, which first released in Japan on this day, February 11, in 1998.
The Sophia’s Portrait is a replica of the same one in the game that Lacan painted. Xenogears character designer Kunihiko Tanakata says that while it is a replica, it is practically the real thing, with a price that reflects its exceptional attention to detail. It is dedicated to those who continue to cherish this painting, as one end to Xenogears, to a new beginning.
The replica Sophia’s Portrait was originally made for the Xenogears 20th anniversary last year, but it’ll come out on July 12, 2019. It measures 464×579mm and the frame comes included. It’ll be available exclusively through the Japanese Square Enix e-Store for 39,800 yen.
Xenogears first released in Japan on February 11, 1998 for PlayStation. It released in North America in October 1998.
