People will have to pay more to play games online on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Microsoft announced the Xbox Live Gold price will go up for all subscription options. The one, three, and six month options will get $1, $5, and $20 increases as part of the initiative going forward.
Here’s a list of the old Xbox Live Gold price changes for each tier, compared to the new ones. As a reminder, Microsoft no longer offers a full year option.
- 1-month of Xbox Live Gold: From $9.99 to $10.99
- 3-months of Xbox Live Gold: From $24.99 to $29.99
- 6-months of Xbox Live Gold: From $39.99 to $59.99
To compare, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is $14.99 for one month and $44.99 for three months.
However, there is one reprieve in effect. It only applies to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which includes access to both Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold. It seems that Microsoft is still allowing that upgrade option for existing memberships at no additional cost, even though people who have current six or twelve month memberships would have to renew at the new, “current price.”
As a reminder, Xbox Live Gold allows people the ability to play online and access a selection of free Xbox 360 and Xbox One games. Xbox Live launched back in 2002 and has experienced few price increases until 2021.
