World of Warcraft 20th Anniversary In-Game Events Detailed

Not only is the 20th anniversary of World of Warcraft coming up, but the 30th anniversary of the Warcraft series as a whole. To celebrate, Blizzard are planning to launch a huge patch full of activities and rewards for all players, including raids, dungeons and other tasks. Here’s a brief overview of what events are coming in the WoW 20th Anniversary patch.

What Events will be Available during the WoW 20th Anniversary?

The biggest of the WoW 20th Anniversary events for many players will be the new Raid version of Blackrock Depths. Originally a long and winding dungeon, Blackrock Depths will be retooled as a series of raid encounters available in Raid Finder, Normal, and Heroic difficulties. A special Timewalking event will also return, allowing players to fight through scaled-up versions of classic WoW dungeons including the Deadmines, Zul’Farrak, both wings of Dire Maul, and both versions of Stratholme. These dungeons will be available for characters of at least level 10, while the raid will likely be for max level characters.

The Caverns of Time in Tanaris will be the center of celebrations this anniversary, with several events such as Mount Mania, where you have to summon the same mount as the event leader, or Fashion Frenzy which is described as a ‘mini Trial of Style event’ that focuses on transmogs. You’ll also be able to transform yourself into one of your pets, or appear as a major story character like Illidan or Khadgar. Additionally, a new event called Guest Relations will provide mysteries to solve each week.

As you take part in the WoW 20th anniversary events, World Bosses will spawn periodically for level 15+ players to help take down. These include bosses returning from the last anniversary event like Lord Kazzak and the Dragons of Nightmare, as well as newcomers like Archavon the Stonewatcher and the Sha of Anger. These will drop lots of the event currency, as well as having rewards of their own.

Then there’s the Codex of Chromie scenario, wherein players of at least level 15 will need to fight out-of-place enemies around the gates of Ahn’Qiraj. This sounds like it may be similar to the pre-expansion Echoes of Azeroth event, and will be available via the Group Finder.

And finally, PvP-focused players will be able to take part in Korrak’s Revenge, a brawl-type mode inspired by the old Alterac Valley battleground. As well as being able to don the appearance of old PvP gear, two mounts will also be available via a quest, one for each faction.

What Rewards will be Available during the WoW 20th Anniversary?

Naturally, a big event will involve big rewards and most appear to be purchasable with the new currency, Bronze Celebration Tokens, earned simply from taking part in WoW 20th Anniversary events. The most immediate prizes are a slew of revamped armor sets based on the Tier 2 raid sets from Classic WoW. These include the iconic Judgement set for Paladins, but classes like Death Knights and Evokers that didn’t exist at the time of Classic will also get new sets based on certain thematic NPC’s. Two new pets based on the Doomlord enemies will also be available, and some pets from past celebrations will also be available to purchase with the new currency.

Timewalking Dungeons will also have a vendor refresh during the Anniversary, including the return of mounts resembling flying carpets and the Amani War Bear. And while Blizzard has not explained how just yet, players will be able to earn a new mount and transmog items based on the service awards granted to long-serving Employees.
