Since Wipeout 2048 is supposed to be the first game in the series and shows how anti-gravity racing began, Studio Liverpool are making a few changes to the game to help convey this vision. For starters, where previous Wipeouts had several different teams competing in each league, 2048 only has five teams.
The five teams that will be in 2048 are: Feisar, Qirex, AG Systems, Auricom and Pir-hana. Each team now has different kinds of ships that are divided into four classes: Speed, Agility Fighter and Prototype, and the game has an experience system with which you can unlock more of these ships as you play. There are 20 ships in all.
Here’s a look at three of the AG Systems ships for example:
Similarly, here are four from Feisar. The one with the grey backdrop is an Agility class:
And three from Auricom:
As far as tracks are concerned, Wipeout 2048 will have 10 new tracks, and will allow you to play select tracks from Wipeout HD Fury against people that own the PlayStation 3 game. Wipeout 2048 will be a PlayStation Vita launch game in Europe, and will be released on February 22nd. A U.S. date hasn’t been announced yet.
