2018’s God of War and the sequel God of War Ragnarök are two incredible Playstation games. It’s understandable then that a lot of players may continue to wonder if God of War will ever be available on an Xbox system, but it won’t.
While it’s a fair question, I have nothing but bad news to share. There is little to no chance that God of War will come to an Xbox console anytime soon. Some third-party exclusives, such as Persona 5 Royal, sometimes open up and appear other consoles at a later date.
However, Sony Santa Monica developed God of War in house, meaning it’s a first-party title. This would be the equivalent of a Super Mario or The Legend of Zelda game coming to an Xbox or Playstation console. It just isn’t going to happen.
Can I play God of War without a Playstation console?
Some good news is that the 2018 God of War is available on the PC. It’s a great port too. The PC is sort of like the neutral ground where many of these console exclusives end up. Games like The Last of Us Part I, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Gears of War are all available on the platform despite exclusivity limitations on consoles.
Unfortunately, if you don’t have a Playstation 4 or 5, this is your only other choice to play a God of War game. God of War Ragnarok will likely come to PC at some point later too, though Sony hasn’t anounced or confirmed it. Maybe it’s not the most affordable option, but it’s there if you already have a PC for gaming.
While it may be disappointing for Xbox console owners wanting to experience the journey of Kratos, we will never see a God of War release on a Microsoft platform. But, that’s the way it goes sometimes. Maybe someday, down the line, we’ll see an end to console exclusives altogether. Until then, if you’re looking to play God of War on a console you’ll need a Playstation.
God of War Ragnarök is available now exclusively on the Playstation 4 and 5.
