Unfortunately, the patch notes for Wii U firmware 5.5.3 reveal this update is a rather typical one. When it comes to changes, here’s what Nintendo said to expect, “Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.”

This is notable, because Wii U firmware 5.5.3 is the first to be released in 2018. The last update,  5.5.2, was released on July 17, 2017. It also was a system stability and usability improving patch. The last Wii U firmware update to actually make a substantial change was 5.5.0 on August 18, 2015, as that was the one that removed the Nintendo TVii icons.

The Nintendo Wii U was first released back in 2012.
