The Baldur’s Gate 3 Tharciate Codex is one of the most powerful items in the game, but it requires some specific steps in Act 3 to get it. If you want to gain an incredible boost for one of your characters and finally complete the “Necromancy of Thay” side story, you’ll want to find this book in Act 3. Here’s how to get it.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Tharciate Codex Location
First off, there are a couple of requirements before you can get the Tharciate Codex in Baldur’s Gate 3. The first one is you need to reach Act 3 but then you also have to progress until you get to the Lower City area. Here’s a map showing where to go.
Once there, you want to visit the shop Sorcerous Sundries and these are the steps you need to follow to get this book:
- Go to the second floor of the store and go through the portal there.
- Speak with Lorroakan, which depending on your choices, may require you to defeat him.
- Either way, continue onward to the furniture floating in the air and jump to each one to reach the bottom of this area.
- Go around the circular room at the bottom and either use an invisibility potion or spell or look for the button in front of the purple weavemoss and press the button there.
- Use your best lock picker to pass through the Ramazith Door.
- Head through the Silverhand Door first.
- Then go through the Evocation Door.
- Then go through the Wish Door, pull the lever, and return to the starting area of this vault.
- Use your best lock picker again to obtain the Tharciate Codex.
This is where it gets interesting. Only one character can read this book, so I highly recommend letting the person who read the Necromancy of Thay book read this. When they do, they will get a curse that knocks off some of their health, but you can use the spell Remove Curse to reverse this and give them a buff that gives them 20 extra health every time they do a long rest.
Then you can read the final pages of the Necromancy of Thay book and learn the extremely powerful Danse Macabre summoning spell.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available for the PS5 and PC. An Xbox Series X/S version is scheduled to release sometime in 2023.
