The 6.5 Growing Light FFXIV patch is here and it brings with it plenty of new content and items for players to collect, such as the new Abyssal Diamond material. This new crafting material lets players craft some of the latest Chocobo barding and other items. But obtaining this rare material is much easier said than done.
How to get Abyssal Diamond in FFXIV
To get the FFXIV Abyssal Diamond material, you need to run and complete The Abyssal Fracture (Extreme) version. This is a trial that was added to the game in patch 6.5, and is one of the hardest endgame pieces of content. The challenging fight is already tough in its normal form, and the Extreme variant is even worse. But if you are able to win this fight, you’ll earn the Abyssal Diamond.
The only alternative is to buy the Abyssal Diamond off the Market Board. Unfortunately, if your world is anything like mine, you are likely to pay millions of Gil for a single diamond for a good while. This valuable crafting material can be used in two Master 10 crafting recipes:
- Abyssal Barding: Level 90 4-star Armorer recipe
- Abyssal Wings Display: Level 90 4-star Goldsmith furniture recipe
How to unlock The Abyssal Fracture (Extreme)
Before you can even get the Abyssal Diamond, though, you need to unlock The Abyssal Fracture (Extreme) in the first place. To do this, play through the patch Growing Light MSQ storyline added in 6.5 until you reach the normal variant of The Abyssal Fracture. Beat this eight-player trial, and you’ll then be able to unlock the Extreme variant.
Head to Old Sharlayan to speak with the Wandering Minstrel there at X: 12.6, Y: 14.2 to unlock the Extreme option. Note that you’ll have to assemble a full party on your own of people using either the Party Finder or asking those you already know. In addition, it features tougher mechanics than the original and harsher requirements. You’ll need item level 640 or higher to even start it.
Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC. It will also release for the Xbox Series X/S in Spring 2024.
