The Gongaga region is one of main areas players visit in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It is a massive jungle with lots of winding, confusing paths and elevated locations. This makes navigating it a challenge, but it gets easier once you have the Gongaga Chocobo in FFVII Rebirth.
How do I unlock the Chocobo in the FFVII Rebirth Gongaga Region
Editor’s Note: There are light spoilers for the main story ahead.
By the time you reach this point in the main story, you’ll know there are usually two types of Chocobos in a region: the kind you unlock through stealth missions or ones acquired in the main story. It just so happens the Gongaga Chocobo falls under the latter category. This is also probably why you haven’t unlocked one yet.
Fortunately, it doesn’t take too long to unlock the Chocobo in Gongaga. What you need to do is continue the main story in this region by heading to the village and learning about Shinra’s reactor. Cloud and a couple of party members will head off to it when things happen, and you’ll need to complete a simple dungeon of sorts with a boss at the end.
After this part, the perspective will switch back over to Tifa and the others in the village. From this point, Tifa and the other members of Avalanche will receive the new Chocobos for use to quickly get to the reactor. This will permanently unlock them for use in this region once you complete this story segment.
How does a Gongaga Chocobo work?
The Gongaga Chocobo in FFVII Rebirth has a unique quirk about it involving the mushroom pads. Players are able to hop on these whenever you find one to soar into the air. This is great for reaching higher up areas or to leap across large parts of the region in no time. It may not be the most glamorous quirk for a regional Chocobo, but it is quite fun to use at least.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available right now exclusively for the PS5.
