What We Want from the Starfield Shattered Space DLC

Plays may have already dumped hundreds of hours into Starfield already, but we can still look ahead to the future. The base game isn’t the end, as there is at least one guaranteed DLC expansion in the form of Shattered Space. Little is known about the release other than being a “story expansion” of some kind. But that doesn’t stop us from talking about what we would like to see in it.

Note: The last two sections will contain some heavy spoilers for Starfield.

New Handcrafted Planets

The first change I’d like to see in the Starfield Shattered Space DLC is at least one new handcrafted planet. I would gladly trade the more than 1,000 planets in the galaxy for two or three smaller planetary sandboxes handcrafted by Bethesda. Specifically, I’d love to see at least a planet with towns, missions, NPCs, facilities, and more worth exploring.

It doesn’t even have to be an entire planet; it can just be an extended region or major city. In the base game, areas like New Atlantis and Neon feel much more polished compared to the countless empty planets that contain miles of the same caves and abandoned mines we’ve seen a hundred times already.

New Factions

Starfield launched with about four optional factions, which included the Freestar Rangers, UC Vanguard, Crimson Fleet/UC SysDef, and Ryujin. This number is totally fine, but some of the factions feel a bit too similar. I’d like to see a new group or two added to the base game. A faction based around researching extraterrestrial life or a colony struggling to survive on a random planet would be a breath of fresh air. Betehsdesa’s space RPG has so much potential. It just needs more unique NPCs for us to interact with.

Seamless Space Travel

I can’t be the only one surprised by the fact you can’t go from space directly onto the surface of a planet. This feature feels so crucial to space travel, so I’d like to see it in the DLC if possible. It would be harder to pull off, but seamless exploration across planets would also be a major upgrade too.

More Aliens

To be fair, aliens already exist in Starfield. Unfortunately, they are mindless spider squid enemies, and that’s it. There are no intelligent lifeforms in the game that I have found to date. Shattered Space could be the chance to introduce the first talking alien species and perhaps revolve around their first contact with the human race.

Answers for the Main Story

The main story in this game is quite interesting, revolving around the multiverse. However, I feel like the story skips over way too many unsolved questions. For instance, who created the temples, artifacts, and Starborn Powers in the first place? Was it an ancient alien race?

Worse still, it feels like there isn’t a proper epilogue, either. Sure, you get a glimpse of what happens to everyone when you leave the universe, but that’s it. I’d like to see a proper ending or epilogue where you can choose one universe to be your permanent home and give up the Starborn immortal life.

Starfield is available for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
