What to Do About the Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 Crashes

While there is immense excitement for Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 and the upcoming Phantom Liberty DLC, some users are reporting crashes after the new update. Siliconera is firsthand experiencing them as well. These crashes are affecting certain platforms and prevent the player from even being able to see the main menu, let alone play all of the new changes and content. Here’s what you need to know.

The Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 crashes began soon after the release of the 2.000.2 update for the game. Some users are reporting the game crashing as soon as they boot it up on PS5 and PC. This includes me. I was able to play the game with the previous 2.000.1 update to test, but it starts crashing after the recent update.

There are a couple of possible reasons for why you might have this crashing issue. For one, if you are on PC, there is a chance that your existing mods could be the issue, though some users have the problem with no mods.

For players on PS5 like myself, there is a chance that this is affecting the physical copies of the game. Two Siliconera writers experienced crashes with the physical PS4 copy of the game and the free PS5 upgrade on September 21, 2023. There’s a chance this could be targeting physical copy players.

What Can You Do About the Crashes?

As for what you can do about these crashes, the best thing to do is bring it to the attention of CD Projekt Red. Tweet at the company on social media and fill out the official support form. The more attention this gets, the quicker a resolution will be found as it can offer the company insight into circumstances and range. If you are on PC, it’s also worth disabling and deleting any mods you previously used.

If you have an existing save, I also recommend starting over so that none of the previous data potentially corrupts or crashes the game. You might want to also try reinstalling the game from scratch, though I can note from personal experience that this isn’t a guaranteed fix. If you’re on PS5, send the report whenever your game crashes. Stay tuned for a full fix, hopefully, in the near future.

Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Phantom Liberty comes to current-gen platforms on September 26, 2023.
