“Cozy” Okada left Atlus and formed a new studio called Gaia. His team created Folklore, which Sony published internationally, and its semi-follow up Coded Soul in early 2008. Supposedly, he’s working on Cosmic Walker, a space walking game for the Wii that Nintendo is publishing sometime in the distant future. We haven’t heard or seen anything about Cosmic Walker since Nintendo’s press briefing last fall.
So, what is Okada and Gaia doing? The short story is they’re making mahjong games for the iPhone. Gaia just released Welcome to Mahjong Club! 2, a mobile mahjong game with a story mode, survival mode, and free play for fast matches.
Gaia started making iPhone games this year. Hexagon Puzzle, a sliding puzzle game with a hexagon board, was their first iPhone title. Pocket Flower – ver. Tulip, a flower growing simulation, came out a few months later. Welcome to Mahjong Club! seems to be doing the best since it just got a sequel.
Here’s a look at Okada’s latest works, which are, in a way, step siblings to Shin Megami Tensei.
