What Is Story Jump Mode in Detective Pikachu Returns?

Story Jump Mode is a new feature in Detective Pikachu Returns that changes how you experience its campaign. Although accessible on the main menu, you have to unlock the option first before you can use it. Here’s how it works.

How do I use Story Jump Mode in Detective Pikachu Returns?

In Detective Pikachu Returns, the Story Jump Mode allows you to skip to any case in the game and play the campaign in any order you like. You can even technically jump straight to the final chapter if you want to. To use the feature, click Story Jump Mode on the main menu and then select one of the five cases in the campaign.

Once you choose a case, you will then be brought to a second screen, which allows you to jump to various chapters within the investigation. However, you must have completed a case from front to back if you want to use the chapter skip feature. This is particularly useful for players who want to go back through a case to pick up side quests they may have missed. Instead of starting over from the beginning, you can jump through various checkpoints in the case.

How do I unlock Story Jump Mode?

You must complete the prologue to unlock Story Jump Mode. The opening tutorial section lasts about twenty minutes and ends when Pikachu is reunited with his detective cap. Once you reach the first case, “The Missing Jewel,” you will have full access to Story Jump Mode. Just save and back out to the main menu, and you will now have the ability to skip to any case in the game.

As I mentioned earlier, you must complete a case to fully use its chapter checkpoint feature in Story Jumpde Mode. But even with just the prologue beat, you can technically skip to the beginning of any case in the game, including the final one in the story.

Detective Pikachu Returns is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
