If you play long sessions in LEGO Fortnite, you may wonder what a Server Lifetime reset is after the notice pops up on your screen. Here is what Server Lifetime in LEGO Fortnite means and what happens to your progress after the countdown timer reaches zero.
Why does Server Lifetime in LEGO Fortnite happen?
While playing LEGO Fortnite for six hours with my wife in a co-op world, we were both confused when a countdown timer on our screen said our server would be reset in an hour. This led us to frantically search what a Server Lifetime in LEGO Fortnite does and what triggers it.
A Server Lifetime in LEGO Fortnite means you will be kicked from your world due to the server needing to be reset.
In my playthrough this happened after I played for around six hours. While other players have also reported this happening around the same time, this may vary from user to user. Once the countdown timer hits zero, you will be kicked back to the lobby, ending your play session. Unfortunately, there is no way around this if it happens to you, and it’s just something you have to deal with.
Do you lose progress when your server resets?
If you get the Server Lifetime notification, you may be wondering what happens to all of your items. Do you lose all of your progress? Does your map reset? The short answer is no. Your progress does not reset when Server Lifetime happens in LEGO Fortnite.
When the Server Lifetime countdown hits zero, you will just be returned to the lobby. All you need to do is reload your world, and all your items and progress will remain there. So the only thing the server reset does in LEGO Fortnite is inconvenience you by making you return to your home menu. As mentioned above, this typically happens when you play for lengthy sessions in your online world.
At the time of writing, there is no official explanation from Epic Games for why this happens. I’ve only experienced it twice. If you don’t play for multiple hours in a row, you might not ever run into it. However, you do not need to panic if you get the Server Lifetime notification. You can even close out your game and reload your world if you don’t want to see the countdown timer on your screen.
LEGO Fortnite is now available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and mobile devices.
