Starfield is full of many different worlds to explore, quests to complete, and enemies to conquer. As you play through this massive game, you might find some parts too hard or easy for you. This is where the Starfield difficulty options come into play.
Which Difficulty Options Are Available in Starfield?
There are a whopping five difficulty options for you to pick from Starfield, which are as follows:
- Very Easy
- Easy
- Normal
- Hard
- Very Hard
As you might expect, the default option is the Normal difficulty, but you can change it when you start a brand new game. You have the decision to start at the default option or opt for a lower or higher difficulty setting. For most players, I suggest picking Normal at the start.
The difficulty options change how much damage you deal to enemies and how much damage they deal to you in return. The lower levels will see you deal more damage to foes, while they deal less to you, and the opposite is true in the later options.
In addition, the higher your difficulty, such as Hard and Very Hard, the better chance you have of encountering legendary enemies. These foes are challenging to take down, but they offer better rewards like items and experience.
Can You Change Your Difficulty in Starfield?
While you pick your initial difficulty option at the start of Starfield, you might be wondering if you can change it in an existing save file. Yes, you can fortunately change your difficulty option anytime you want to.
Simply head to the main menu, open up the options, and pick the gameplay setting. Under here, you can change your difficulty anytime you are not in the middle of combat. I recommend for everyone to pick Normal to start out with, then feel free to change your difficulty as you need to.
For instance, I changed my difficulty to an easier one in some space battles I struggled with near the beginning of the game and changed it to higher difficulty options when I was in New Game+.
Starfield is available for the Xbox Series X and PC.
