Last week, Japan didn’t see any major new releases, but it did get Record or Grancrest War’s strategy game debut on PS4 along with Super Bomberman R on PS4 and God Wars: The Complete Legend on Switch and PS4.

The #1 of the week was a bit of a surprise with Splatoon 2 taking it back for the first time since around the time it released back in July 2017 and stayed on top for a while. Yeah, Japan loves its Splatoon, and it’s good to see it on top after hanging out in the #2 and #3 slots for so long.

Last week’s top-seller in Fate/Extella Link on PS4 dropped to #2 with 13,996 units sold in the week. Its PS Vita version that was #3 last week went #9 with 6,565 units sold. At #3 we have this week’s first new title with Record of Grancrest War with 11,871 units sold on PS4.

Following is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at #4 with a strong 10,885 units sold for Switch, Kirby: Star Allies at #5 with 7,698 units sold for Switch, and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze with 7,429 units sold for Switch.

As for the other new titles of the week, we have Super Bomberman R for PlayStation 4 at #12 with 4,946 units sold, God Wars: The Complete Legend at #15 with 2,967 units sold on Switch and at #17 with 2,656 units sold on PS4. An honorable mention goes to Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX that squeezed in at #19 with 2,324 units sold on PS4 after charting #47 last week. The E3 2018 hype was definitely real.

Hardware sales were mostly close to the previous week with the PS4 selling 19,090 units and the PS4 Pro with 6,048 to combine for 25,138 units between the two. The Nintendo Switch was the top-selling console with 48,062 units sold in the week. Going by Media Create’s numbers, the Nintendo Switch is currently at 4,394,611 units sold in Japan since its launch in March 3, 2017.
