Last week, Japan got to see the latest of the Ace Attorney series with Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice for Nintendo 3DS and other new releases. Here’s a look at Media Create’s latest sales data for software and hardware that sold from the week of June 6 through June 12, 2016.

[Editor’s Note: Apologies for the delay, had a busy week!]

Capcom’s latest release in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice debuted at #1 after having sold 196,831 copies in its first week. Here’s how it compares to debuts of the previous three major Ace Attorney games:

  • (2007) Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney – 250,186
  • (2013) Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies – 250,216
  • (2015) The Great Ace Attorney – 135,690

The almost-200k sales figures may have taken a little dip compared to the previous two main titles, but they’re still good numbers nonetheless. It should also be noted that the Ace Attorney series has also been seeing steady releases in recent years, having a new game each year since Dual Destinies if you count Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy in 2014.

Dragon Quest Heroes II continues to sell well, along with Overwatch and Kirby: Planet Robobot keeping their spots from the previous week at #4 and #5, respectively. As far as other new releases go, Japan saw Project CARS: Perfect Edition debut at #7 with 9,470 copies sold, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst at #9 with 5,699 copies sold and Grand Ages: Medieval at #18 with 3,061 copies sold in its debut.

On the hardware front, we saw a drop across all platforms, well, all except for the New Nintendo 3DS XL [and the non-XL], which saw about a 77% increase in sales from last week’s 12,286 units sold to this week’s 21,736. That’s the power of the Ace Attorney series at work. The last time the New Nintendo 3DS XL sold more was during late-March when Yo-kai Watch: Romance of the Three Kingdoms released, helping the handheld console move 22,020 units.

The top-20 chart for the week is as follows:
