The studio behind shadowy puzzle platformer Contrast, Compulsion Games, has released a teaser for its next game, which is called We Happy Few.
Given that this teaser is the first we’ve seen of the game not much is currently known about We Happy Few. It seem to bear a first-person view and is likely to involve platforming and exploration, judging by the trailer.
What has been confirmed is that it’s set in a “drug-fuelled, retrofuturistic city in an alternative 1960s England.” It’s a place where everyone is artificially cheery and everything is made out to be perfect. Of course, it’s not, and the disposition between the surface presentation and the evil that lies beneath the veneer certainly has a BioShock vibe to it.
The story focuses on a group of people trying to escape from this hellish reality. And, reading into this line from Compulsion Games, “you’ll have to blend in with its other inhabitants, who don’t take kindly to people who don’t abide by their not-so-normal rules,” it seems that it may be a stealth game.
Whether you’ll need to strictly keep to evading the other citizens that beat you to death, or whether you’ll be able to fight them in some way, is yet to be seen. Keep track of the game on its website for updates as they come.
