As part of the Nintendo Treehouse Live E3 2021, people had a chance to see some early in-game battles. Nell and Orange Star headed into a fight against Blue Moon’s Olaf and Green Earth’s Eagle. Siliconera also contacted Nintendo and confirmed that WayForward is developing Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot with Intelligent Systems’ and Nintendo’s “support and advice.”
As usual, the footage looked at staple Advance Wars mechanics. You capture buildings as you move across the map. These can grant you additional funds. That lets you eventually build more units on maps with more factories. Though in this initial map, people had set troops. The goal is to wipe out all forces or take over an enemy’s HQ. In the first map, Olaf’s Coral Fortress was the target.
After defeating Olaf in Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot, the Treehouse stream skipped to Mission 6 against Eagle. The goal of this portion was to show how aerial and transport units would work. In particular, it showed how getting units to critical spaces with helicopters and APCs so you could capture cities and factories.
The full Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp Nintendo Treehouse E3 2021 footage also noted you can speed up battles and skip battle animations and that four-player co-op will be back too.
Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp from WayForward will come to the Nintendo Switch on December 3, 2021 in North America and Europe. A Japanese release hasn’t been confirmed yet.
