Watch: Sega Technical Institute’s lost Sonic Game

Game|Life pointed me to a video of a US developed Sonic the Hedgehog title based on Sonic: The Animated Series. There is a neat pseudo 3D move Sonic has where he steps into the background, it’s sort of like Guilty Gear’s two stage system but developed during the days of the Genesis. Sonic also has some unusual abilities too like throwing rings to attack and a super move where he launches a wave of spikes in midair. It’s unclear when the Sonic the Animated series game was supposed to come out, but its strikingly different from all of Sega’s other games. Too bad it never saw the light of day.

Sega-16 who obtained the footage has another Sega prototype movie you have to see from Comix Zone where Sketch is named “Joe Pencil”.
