Siliconera got to go to the ACGHK 2019 game show in Hong Kong, where we were able to go hands-on with Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot at PlayStation HK’s booth.
The demo shown involves the climactic battle between Goku, Piccolo, and Raditz, in a mission to save Gohan. The demo build also supported traditional Chinese.
You can check out our gameplay footage below:
With a button dedicated to physical combat, a button dedicated to Ki attacks, and the triangle button to charge Ki, the game’s controls were somewhat simple despite its flashy gameplay. L1+ face buttons were used to activate special attacks that consumed Ki, including the Kamehameha. While the combat was satisfying to hit and weave between attacks, we also felt that flying up and down felt a bit clunky, and that the overworld was surprisingly empty (other than cameo characters here and there), although the latter may be because this is a demo build.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot releases for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in early 2020. You can check out screenshots of Gohan, Piccolo, Vegeta, Krillin, Tien, Yamcha, and Chiaotzu in our previous report here.
