Nintendo briefly announced a new addition to the eShop Virtual Console library on Twitter today. VS. Excitebike, a version of Excitebike created for the Famicom Disk System, is going to receive a digital release overseas. This will mark its first appearance outside of Japan.
VS. Excitebike was notable for a number of reasons. The first being the inclusion of a multiplayer mode. Two people can race one another, deciding which track to use and how many laps the race will be. It also allowed people to create and save custom tracks, and had a completely different soundtrack from the original game. It’s single player mode was based on the arcade version of Excitebike as well, rather than the NES release.
VS. Excitebike will be part of the August 27 eShop update. Nintendo did not specify if it would be part of the Nintendo Wii U Virtual Console library, or if it will be a Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console game. The original Excitebike is available for the Wii U, and 3D Classics: Excitebike is available for the 3DS.
