Mekazoo is a vibrant platformer that focuses on free-flowing movement and stars a range of mechanical animals with unique abilities. It’s coming to PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox One, and PC later this year.

Across the game, you’ll control five different mekanimals but only pairs, so you can switch between them both during a level to handle different situations. They are: the speedy armadillo, an acrobatic frog, the springy wallaby, a sturdy panda, and the flying pelican.

The aim of these mekanimals is to restore order to the mekasphere after insectoids ran rampant and their friends were transformed into large mekanimal bosses (which you’ll definitely have to defeat in order to succeed).

Jarrett Slavin of The Good Mood Creators and creative director of Mekazoo said that the game is “inspired by the platformer classics we spent every second with after school, like Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country.” You can see the inspirations in the trailer above, particularly in the cannons that fire the animals across the lush levels, just as the barrel cannons did in Donkey Kong Country. The armadillo’s ball form and high-speed also evokes Sonic games.
