Vagrant Story Creator Yasumi Matsuno is Writing a Scenario for a Game

Final Fantasy Tactics Director and Writer and Vagrant Story Designer, Director, Producer, and Writer Yasumi Matsuno is reportedly working on a game. According to Final Fantasy series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Matsuno is currently working on a title as a scenario writer. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

The information comes from a recent end-of-year round of interviews from the Japanese news outlet 4Gamer. The outlet asked 147 Japanese video game creators various questions, including what projects they are looking forward to in the near future.

Sakaguchi revealed that Matsuno was currently working as a scenario writer on a game. Sakaguchi did not reveal the title of the game in question nor any additional details. However, he did state that he was looking forward to how Yasumi Matsuno’s new writing for the game would turn out.

Prior to leaving Square Enix in 2005, Matsuno acted as a creator for the Final Fantasy Tactics series and Vagrant Story. He also helped write the original concept for Final Fantasy XII. Matsuno later worked as a freelance writer and briefly worked at Level-5. Matsuno’s latest video game release was Unsung Story in 2020.

Notably, Matsuno was the scenario writer for both the “Return to Ivalice” and “Save the Queen” side stories in Final Fantasy XIV. Matsuno has continued to keep in touch with Sakaguchi after departing Square Enix and was recently helping the series creator play FFXIV.
