Back on January 14, 2014, Unsung Story hit Kickstarter to fund a new strategy game that Ogre Battle, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Vagrant Story developer Yasumi Matsuno would be involved with. It made $660,126 from 15,824 people. Now, almost seven years later, a playable version is about to appear for everyone. The Unsung Story PC version will enter early access on Steam “soon,” according to Little Orbit.
There’s no definite release date for this new build of the game yet beyond “coming soon.” Little Orbit noted Kickstarter backers who opted in at a tier that included the game would get a Steam key for it “over the coming days.” However, it did say it will be around another year and a half before the full game appears, as the initial release will only include the four-hour long first chapter.
Little Orbit also explained what people will experience in the game. Saving and loading files will be possible, story cutscenes are included, there will be a hub where you can shop and recruit characters. There will only be six jobs initially though, with people able to make characters archers, elementalists, guardians, mercenaries, physicians, and sages. The level cap at the moment for them is eight. Also, it said only seven missions will be available.
Here’s the Unsung Story early access trailer, which focuses on gameplay.
After being funded in February 2014, things started to go downhill for Unsung Story. During 2014 and 2015, there were regular updates that looked at the game and its characters. However, Playdek put development on hold in 2016. When Little Orbit picked it up again in 2017, it completely started over.
The Unsung Story PC version will enter early access soon. It will also eventually appear on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC.
