In August 2021, a similar video featuring the protagonist Shiki Tohno and Arcueid Brunestud was released.

The original Tsukihime visual novel was released by Type Moon in 2000 to massive fanfare. An anime series based on the title called Lunar Legend Tsukihime aired in 2003, while a manga series was serialized in Dengeki Daioh magazine between 2003 and 2010. A remake was originally announced in 2008, with Tsukihime -A Piece of Blue Glass Moon- being the first of two planned releases with routes featuring characters like Arcueid and Ciel.

In an interview in August 2021, Co-Founder of Type-Moon and Writer of Tsukihime Kinoko Nasu discussed the changes that had been made in the remake, including attempts to create a more modern setting. Type-Moon has also taken to Twitter in past weeks to discourage consumers from sharing any spoilers pertaining to the newly-released title until September 8, 2021.

Tsukihime -A Piece of Glass Moon- is now available in Japan for the Nintendo Switch and Playstation 4. There are currently no reports of a Western release. Melty Blood: Type Lumina, a fighting game featuring characters from the Tsukihime Remake, will be released worldwide for the Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 30, 2021.
