Hayley Atwell will play Lara in Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. Atwell’s most famous role is Agent Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and she also voiced Captain Carter in the animated What If…? anthology that’s available on Disney+.

While the Netflix description states that the show takes place after the trilogy, it’s unclear whether people will need to play them all to fully understand the story. This trilogy includes Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. As of the time of writing, a bundle for the games is on sale via Steam.

Lara Croft is a very famous and significant character in video game history. For better or for worse, she is influential on many generations of gamers. While she’s had multiple retcons in her history over the long years since the first Tomb Raider, her main motivation in games is usually to look for rare objects or mystical artefacts. This search can be for a multitude of reasons depending on which version we’re talking about.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft will appear exclusively on Netflix on October 10, 2024.
