Governor Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’s running mate in the 2024 US presidential election, played some Crazy Taxi with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez over the weekend. You can watch the video on his YouTube channel.
Here’s the official clip of the segment:
At just about five minutes long, the video starts with Tim Walz talking about the Sega Dreamcast and giving a very brief introduction about Crazy Taxi. He also notes that there’s a character of him in the game, which you can unlock if you’re really good. This is a reference to a mod, rather than something original. Walz notes that he doesn’t know how to use the controls on Xbox, but still seemed to have some muscle memory from his time on the Dreamcast. Throughout the video, he banters with AOC and he reminisces on his old Dreamcast, which he’d bought and eventually had to bring to the office due to his wife’s disapproval.
This is a clip from their Twitch stream. They’d also played Madden NFL 25 together during the stream. At the end of the clip on YouTube, Walz reminds people to go vote in the upcoming election, and says that politics are for everyone to participate in and that it can be a joyful thing.
Crazy Taxi first came out in 1999 as an arcade game before the Dreamcast port in 2000. In it, you play as a taxi driver who must get as much money as possible within a set time limit. The latest non-mobile version of Crazy Taxi was Fare Wars in 2007 for the PSP. However, Sega teased a new Crazy Taxi during The Game Awards 2023, with more information on that to come in the future.
The 2024 United States presidential election will take place on November 5, 2024.
