Top-seller: Final Fantasy Type-0 – 472,253

Nintendo 3DS sales: 65,041 | Total sales: 2,211,644

The top-seller in Japan last week was the long-awaited Final Fantasy Type-0, originally announced as a mobile phone game (Final Fantasy Agito XIII) in 2006, and later moved to the PSP. Final Fantasy Type-0 sold 472,253 copies in its first week.

Want to see how that compares to previous Final Fantasy games released for PSP? Take a look at their first-week sales in ascending order:

No. Title First week Released
01. Dissidia: Final Fantasy
489,126
Dec 2008
02. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
486,659 Sep 2007
03. Dissidia 012[duodecim]: Final Fantasy 286,117 Mar 2011
04. Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection 104,173 Mar 2011

The question now is whether or not Type-0 can continue to sell consistently amidst the upcoming flood of year-end releases, including Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7 and Monster Hunter 3G. Watching it over the next few weeks should be interesting.

At #2 was Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, followed by The Idolm@ster at #3. Konami’s Terror of the Stratus was on the chart as well, coming in at #9.

Finally, at #18 was another interesting game: Arcana Famiglia (trailer above – seriously, watch it), a PSP otome(?) adventure starring a girl named Felicita. It was developed by HuneX and published by Comfort. Characters for the game were designed by Yomi Sarachi, who also adapted Steins;Gate into a manga.
