Last week, Japan had a big week full of major releases including The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV, Warriors Orochi 4, Utawarerumono: Zan, The World Ends With You: Final Remix, and more. Japanese sales tracker Media Create released the latest video game software and hardware sales data from the week of September 24 to September 30, 2018.

 

The top-selling title of the week was Warriors Orochi 4 at #1 with 100,831 units sold for PS4 and also at #4 with 23,660 units sold for  Switch to combine for 124,491 units, topping last major Musou release Dynasty Warriors 9 that sold 117,495 units in its debut.

 

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV –The End of Saga- released in #2 with 85,161 units sold on PS4 for its debut. Below is a look at how it compares with the debuts of the previous entries in the series:

  • (2013) Trails of Cold Steel – 149,340 [PSV – 81,622|PS3 – 67,718]
  • (2014) Trails of Cold Steel II – 151,781 [PSV – 86,283|PS3 – 65,498]
  • (2017) Trails of Cold Steel III – 87,261 [PS4]

 

As far as other new entries go, FIFA 19 on PS4 followed at #3 with 57,772 units sold and again at #8 with 16,200 units sold for Nintendo Switch to combine for 73,972 units. This top’s last year’s FIFA 18 which sold 69,973 between PS4 and Switch. Dragon Ball FighterZ for Switch launched at #5 with 23,202 units sold. Utawarerumono Zan debuted with 21,316 units to chart at #7. The World Ends With You: Final Remix at #9 with 14,216 units sold for Switch, and Valkyria Chronicles 4’s Switch version made its debut of 5,596 units for #14.

 

In hardware sales, the PS4 sold 15,322 units plus an additional 5,084 for PS4 Pro models to total 20,406 units sold in the week. The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console with 42,957 units sold, making up 58.4% of all hardware sales of the week. Going by Media Create’s figures, the Nintendo Switch has passed the five million milestone and is currently at 5,055,119 units sold in Japan since its launch in March 3, 2017.
