The Thieves and the 1,000 Pokémon is an upcoming free-to-play StreetPass game for the Nintendo 3DS that involves having to use hundreds (or thousands) of Pokémon to stampede over enemies. The official website shows us a little more about how the game is played.

The first thing you’ll need to do upon starting The Thieves and the 1,000 Pokémon, is to select which one you’d want as a leader out of Fennekin, Froakie, and Chespin. From there, you’ll always gain more of those three by the dozens whenever you use the StreetPass feature.

However, after the battle, several of them will leave, so if you don’t keep using StreetPass, you might end up with less and less Pokémon. If you can’t find enough people to StreetPass with, don’t worry, since the game also allows you to trade in Game Coins for more Pokémon, but only more of whichever you picked as the leader.

As you progress through the game, you’ll encounter different Pokémon and characters, such as Marilyn Flame and Ninja Riot (shown above,)  who will also appear in Pokémon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction.

In order to win fights, you’ll need to have more battle power than your opponent. However, simply using all of your Pokémon for one stage won’t be a good idea, as they might not all be able to participate in the next stage. Thinking ahead of time will be key to smoothly advancing in the game.

Like in most Pokémon games, elemental strengths and weaknesses will play a role in the combat. Choosing the right Pokémon against the opponent will be another factor to consider.

The Pokémon you encounter might not always notice you. When this happens, you can try to sneak behind them, so your Pokémon can get a little more rest without having to partake in the battle. They might catch you at times too, so be careful!

The Thieves and the 1,000 Pokémon will be available for free on the Nintendo 3DS eShop from June 5 to September 30, 2014.
