Nintendo announced that it is working with Arad Productions and Sony Pictures on a live-action movie adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad will produce the film together, with Wes Ball as the director.
According to the announcement, Nintendo and Sony Pictures will finance the movie together. However, Nintendo will handle over 50% of the budget. Sony will distribute the movie worldwide, though there is no information yet in regards to a release window. In general, there’s not much information on the Zelda live action movie. It’s unclear if it will follow the events of a particular game, or if it will tell a complete new story.
Arad Productions is Avi Arad’s movie production company, which he formed in 2006. He also worked as the chairman, CEO, and founder of Marvel Studios. He produced Spider-Man 2, Iron Man, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The Legend of Zelda will not be Arad’s first foray into making a movie based on a video game. He was also the producer for Uncharted. As for Wes Ball, he directed the Maze Runner trilogy of movies.
A live-action movie adaptation of The Legend of Zelda has started production. More information will come out in the future.
