A CG movie based on The King of Fighters was announced, and it is being produced partially by the studio behind The King of Fighters: Destiny. Titled The King of Fighters: Awaken, it seems like it will dive into the Orochi saga’s story and act as a follow-up to the previous CG animation series. The movie is being produced by Joy Pictures and Original Force & iDragon Creative Studio.
Check out the trailer, with subtitles by Banden, below.
The video began with Goenitz, the main villain of the Orochi saga, approaching a shrine that holds the sacred Yata mirror that sealed Orochi in the past. As Goenitz entered, the mirror cracked. This showed that Orochi’s return is near. The King of Fighters protagonist Kyo Kusanagi then showed up to duke it out with Goenitz.
From there, the trailer turned to Iori Yagami feeding a kitten in a back alley. A young kid came up to him and said Kyo’s name. This could suggest Iori will be going after his rival in the movie. Iori appeared at the very last episode of The King of Fighters: Destiny playing an electric guitar as a teaser, and the movie will have Iori more involved in the story.
The King of Fighters: Awaken will be released in China in 2022.
