If people aren’t interested in the PlayStation 5 launch games, say like Demon’s Souls or Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, there will at least be something they can watch. The Crunchyroll PS5 app is live. The company announced the debut of the streaming service on the new console and shared two images showing how its UI on the system.
If you’ve already used the Crunchyroll app on other platforms, like say the PlayStation 4, then the PS5 version should also look pretty familiar.
Sony and Crunchyroll have been paired together in other ways as well. Back at the end of October 2020, we learned Sony was in the final negotiations to acquire the anime streaming service. First mentions of AT&T and WarnerMedia selling it came up back in August 2020. Initial news suggested Sony could end up spending ¥100 billion (about $957 million) to buy it.
The Crunchyroll PS5 app is one of many available right away. Sony confirmed services like AppleTV, Disney+, Netflix, Spotify, Twitch and YouTube also already are available on the system. In fact, the PS5 media remote even has designated Disney+, Netflix, Spotify and YouTube buttons on it.
The PlayStation 5 is now available in Australia, Japan, North America and South Korea. It will appear in other regions worldwide on November 19, 2020.
