World of Warcraft is host to a great number of native features, but there’s always some quality-of-life that slips through the cracks. Luckily, World of Warcraft also allows users to modify various elements of their game through the use of Add-Ons. Add-Ons are extensions and helpful widgets that improve the vanilla experience either by providing useful information on bosses, doing the complicated mathematics when comparing gear for you, or even guiding you through your class spec’s ability rotation. Finding the right add-ons can be an intimidating task if you don’t know what you’re looking for. If you’re keen on using the bestWorld of Warcraft add-ons, then check out some of the following recommendations.
Bagnon
Bagnon is a simple add-on that improves the organization of your inventory. It features an improved sorting function, customizable settings, and has a built-in search bar for finding items. It’s much faster than scanning each slot looking for the gear or crafting reagent you’re looking for! Bagnon allows you to view your remote inventories as well, including your bank. Bagnon will also let you know when an item in your inventory is currently owned by your other characters as well. This eliminates the need to log in-and-out of your alts to check whether or not they have it. It won’t drastically alter the way you play the game, but it removes some of the tedium that comes with inventory management.
Deadly Boss Mods
Raiding in World of Warcraft is a nerve-wracking affair if you don’t have much experience with it. The pressure is on to perform well for the sake of your fellow players! But performing well means much more than just playing your role. Raid bosses have unique abilities with specific ways to avoid them. They have phases where the rules of engagement may change. They come equipped with special behaviors players have to constantly be aware of. This is where add-ons like Deadly Boss Mods come in.
Utilizing a mixture of sound effects and visual warnings, DBM will indicate when bosses are going to perform certain moves. It gives players instructions on how to avoid those moves and will display timers for those abilities whenever possible, allowing you to prepare for incoming attacks. What makes this add-on so valuable is the information it supplies players with; it’s much easier to learn all the mechanics of a raid boss with the added visuals and warnings- but it doesn’t replace your aptitude! Whether you’re new to raiding or have been since Molten Core, add-ons like DBM are an excellent tool to have.
WeakAuras
It may be easier to explain what WeakAuras doesn’t do. Essentially, this add-on allows you to customize your UI in a multitude of ways. However, it doesn’t do anything on its own. Luckily, the community surrounding WeakAuras is active, and there’s plenty of different widgets and UI changes to try out! Anything from telling when to use your abilities, to keeping track of how many of your guildmates have mythic keys. It has a bit of a learning curve to it (there’s also a risk you take when importing someone else’s code- be careful), so you might want to try other add-ons before committing. Once you take the time to understand how to utilize it, however, the sky’s the limit on what you can do.
Pawn
There’s always that moment when you’re staring at two pieces of gear for the same slot, and be utterly confused about which one you should equip. This is especially true at end-game, when you’ll have to learn to prioritize different stats. But you also need know when to ignore those priorities given a big enough boost to your attributes. Pawn aims to aid against this confusion.
You can set weights to your desired stats, and it will calculate the overall rating for each piece of gear, alerting you when something is a better overall upgrade. If you don’t want to manually prioritize your stats, Pawn has automated settings for every class and specialization, ensuring you won’t be lost on your journey towards optimization. It isn’t perfect! You’ll still want to pay attention to what exactly it is you’re equipping. As an additional visual aid though, you can’t go wrong.
TomTom
TomTom is one of the more popular add-ons to do this, but get yourself any add-on that displays coordinates on your map. Coordinates are essential if you’re going to be playing World of Warcraft in the long-term. They make it easier to coordinate (hah!) with other players, locate important NPCs or hard-to-find enemies when you’re cross-referencing guides, and are a godsend when trying to find specific locations or objects you need for achievements. TomTom has the added features of being able to mark multiple waypoints, and display a helpful (if a bit intrusive) guiding arrow pointing towards your destination.
These are just a few of the best World of Warcraft add-ons you can find. There’s a lot more out there, so feel free to try them on and see what works best for you. You’ll probably want to give Deadly Boss Mods a field test, so make sure you check out the release schedule for The War Within’s Season One raid here.
