The 3rd Birthday Lets You Tweak Aya’s DNA And Dive Into Her Enemies

In addition to showcasing costumes, Famitsu has a gameplay blowout on The 3rd Birthday. Remember how Aya can use the Overdive system to leap into the minds of allied characters on the battlefield? She can dive into the Twisted too.

Aya has a move called an Overdive Kill, which you can trigger after riddling a Twisted with bullets. When a triangle mark pops up you can press the R button to lock on and the triangle button to activate the attack. This makes Aya jump into the monster’s consciousness and destroy the Twisted from within.

Famitsu also explains the game’s customization system. Aye can collect and place DNA chips on the Over Energy board. This grid has nine squares, which are linked together. Chips are different sizes so players have to shuffle them around to optimize Aya. The way you line up chips matters too since the game sums all the chip levels. For example, if you place a level 1 antibody next to a chip with two level 1 antibodies (that makes three level 1 antibodies in a row), the chips mutate creating a level 3 antibody for Aya. It isn’t clear what the antibody chip does, though. Another Over Energy chip seen in Famitsu is the "cross healing."

The 3rd Birthday has another familiar face. Kunihiko Maeda from Parasite Eve 1 returns in The 3rd Birthday. Maeda remodeled a storage room in Manhattan into a laboratory. Just like before, Maeda is described as a brilliant and passionate scientist.
