After Thunder Force V, Technosoft disappeared when it was purchased by a Pachinko company. Technosoft’s legacy was left as future Virtual Console releases, but like a zombie Technosoft lives. The revised Technosoft is back in business with a new Thunder Force game. The first screenshots of Thunder Force VI show Thunder Force hasn’t changed much after ten years. The graphics look better, but the series sticks with its horizontal shmup roots.
Sega plans to publish the game in Japan on October 30 for the PlayStation 2. Too bad Thunder Force VI wasn’t developed to be a downloadable game. That would have boosted the chance of a worldwide release. I’m anxious to see if Technosoft picks up where R-Type Final left off or if the Thunder Force series will make a strange transformation to a FPS space sim. Stranger things have happened.
