A recognizable voice in the Tales series has announced he will not be as active in the field while recovering from a medical condition. Tsubasa Yonaga, who people may recognize as the Tales of Xillia Jude Mathis voice actor, announced on Twitter that he will be cutting back due to dysphonia. [Thanks, Anime News Network!]
Yonaga noted that he has been suffering from the condition since the end of 2018. To help with his recovery, he will be limiting himself. He noted he will still make already scheduled appearances and participate in planned projects in one tweet. For example, his upcoming roles are Hibiki Kimiya in the A Destructive God Sits Next to Me 2020 anime adaptation of the series that will begin its run on January 11th. He will also appear again as Mitsuki Izumi in the second season of Idolish 7, which will begin airing in April 2020.
Dysphonia is when someone is suffering from a hoarse, strained voice. It can be caused by overuse, as well as other ailments or conditions. The recovery process can involve medication, rest, surgery, or different sorts of therapies, depending on the nature of the person’s specific conditions.
As far as video games go, Yonaga is best known for playing Jude Mathis in various Tales games. He voiced the character in titles like Tales of Xillia, Tales of Xillia 2, and Tales of Berseria. He also played Luan Forest in E.X. Troopers, Kensuke Kurosaki in the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation Vita, and mobile Corpse Party games, and Zack in Time and Eternity.
