Sword Art Online: Variant Showdown Maintenance Runs Until Summer 2024

Sword Art Online: Variant Showdown maintenance will begin starting on September 28, 2023 until Summer 2024. This is to fix a large number of bugs and other issues that are currently in the game. The development team will also take the chance to come up with and implement new content, as well as adjust existing rules and characters.

Takeuchi, the producer for Sword Art Online: Variant Showdown, posted on the game’s official X (formerly known as Twitter) account to explain and apologize for the maintenance. He noted that there have been multiple issues with the game since launch, and that every time the team fixes them, new problems will pop up. In light of this, he has decided to pause service to fix major bugs in the code. This is so that players can enjoy the game for many years to come.

Currently, Bandai Namco predicts that it will take until Summer 2024 for the overhaul to complete. It will not undergo any updates that will delete user data. So players will be able to pick up from where they left off. However, Bandai Namco still recommends that players backup their login data and in-game information. The team plans on reporting what it fixed and where it’s at with the maintenance once every month. Because of the upcoming maintenance, the in-game shop will close on August 31, 2023.

Sword Art Online: Variant Showdown is available on mobile devices. Maintenance will start from September 28, 2023 and end in Summer 2024. Another Sword Art Online game, Sword Art Online: Last Recollection, will launch on October 6, 2023 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC via Steam.
