Customizing Special Moves:

Super Smash Bros. will allow you to customize your characters’ moves, director Masahiro Sakurai revealed during a presentation at E3 this evening.

Customizing here doesn’t refer to adding equipment to your characters, but to adjusting their fighting style. Each character has four special attacks—Up, Down, Side and Standard. Now, there are three moves in each of those categories.

For example, Mario can choose a Fireball, a Fast Fireball or a Fire Orb.

In order to maintain the game’s balance, these customizable moves will only be available to use while playing with friends and not while playing with strangers.

Customizing Character Equipment:

Super Smash Bros. also has an equipment feature. You can acquire equippable items in both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of the game and put them on your characters.

Sakurai said that the “Smash Run” mode from the Nintendo 3DS version of the game is the easiest way to acquire equipment. Once you’ve geared up, your character can then be transferred to the Wii U.

Each character can equip three pieces of gear. For example, Mario can use High-Power Gloves, which can increase his attack at the cost of speed. This way, you can create a more powerful (but slow) character or a quicker (but less damage-heavy) one.
