Nintendo announced today that their upcoming smartphone game, Super Mario Run, will launch for iPhone and iPad on December 15, 2016.

Super Mario Run will be available as a free download through the app store. In the free version, players will get a taste of its three modes, but it’ll cost a one-time payment of $9.99 to get full access of the three modes.

The game will be available on iOS devices that are on iOS 8.0 or higher. We’ll see the game available in 151 countries, with supporting languages of English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Russian, and traditional Chinese.

Here’s a quote from Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing:

“The wait is almost over for a Super Mario game that can be played on mobile devices. “Developed under the direction of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, Super Mario Run brings a new take on the series’ beloved action-platforming gameplay to iPhone and iPad for the first time.”

Super Mario Run is also the first game from the Super Mario Bros. that is developed specifically for smartphone. In the game, you’ll play as Mario who runs forward on his own, but you’ll need to help him out with taps to jump over obstacles, avoid enemies, and pull off stylish moves while collecting coins on your way to reach the flagpole throughout its many stages.
