Nintendo released a new story trailer for the Super Mario RPG remake. The trailer introduces players to the characters, gameplay mechanics and additional side content for the whole game.
Many of the features shown off in the overview trailer will be familiar to fans of the original game. The Super Mario RPG story was detailed, showing off Mario’s party, including Peach, Bowser and two characters unique to the game, Mallow and Geno. We also get to see a variety of villains from across the game, with Booster, Jonathan Jones and the Smithy Gang getting highlights. The trailer also detailed that bosses can be fought again in a new post-game mode.
The overview trailer also showed off the battle system in Super Mario RPG. While the battle system is mostly identical to the original game, the trailer also highlights the addition of Triple Moves. These special attacks see the three party members combine their abilities in a devastating blow. The moves will change depending on the party composition. There will also be a Breezy Mode to make battles easier, increasing player damage and experience points.
Elsewhere in the trailer, Nintendo showed off how various locations look in the remake, including the Forest Maze, Booster Pass, Kero Sewers, Land’s End and The Vinery. Minigames from the original will also be returning, including Mushroom Derby and Midas River. There are also hints that new minigames will be added for the remake. The trailer also showed off the soundtrack switch feature which has previously been announced.
