Suika Game Won Back-to-Back Switch Digital Ranking in Japan

Nintendo has updated its yearly Japanese Switch digital download ranking with the 2024 edition. It revealed that Aladdin X’s Suika Game continues to dominate the digital Switch scene in Japan by retaining the top spot for two consecutive years since 2023.

Out of the other four titles that comprised the top five in 2023, only Super Mario Bros. Wonder remained in the 2024 rankings, albeit at a much lower rank in 16th place. Adding more to the surprise is the fact that none of Nintendo’s first-party titles appeared in the top five for 2024. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Super Mario Party Jamboree could only reach seventh and eighth places respectively.

Indie games ended up accompanying Suika Game in the 2024 edition’s top three, with The Exit 8 and Overcooked! 2 occupying second and third places respectively. Square Enix’s HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest 3, despite being voted the most trending game in 2024 by key people from the Japanese game industry, could only manage fourth place. Meanwhile, Monster Hunter Rise found its way back to fifth place after previously reaching the spot in 2022—the same year Capcom released the Sunbreak expansion as its DLC.
