Street Fighter V Rose Tarot Cards Discussed by the Developers

Rose is the star of the latest Street Fighter V: Character Introduction Series video, and the Q&A segment talks about her tarot cards. They show up often in this entry for the fortune teller, with her appearing on a card in her introduction and using them while fighting. Director Takayuki Nakayama and Capcom’s Battle Design Team talked about the inspiration behind her cards and her appearance in this entry.

The Q&A portion began at about the five minute mark of the almost ten minute long video. The team was asked about the significance behind the appearance of the Chariot, Death, Magician, and Tower cards Rose uses in Street Fighter V. It turned out the team knew they wanted to involve the cards, but first thought about effects before deciding which ones to use. So both a card’s color and design helped determine if they’d show up when using her Soul Fortune V-Skill.

For reference, here are the four Soul Fortune V-Skill tarot cards and their effects.

  • I The Magician: If you hold the button, Rose’s V-Gauge will increase.
  • VII The Chariot: Rose’s attack power will increase.
  • XIII Death: Increases chip damage an opponent takes.
  • XVI The Tower: Lowers an opponent’s attack.

Here is the full Character Introduction Series trailer. You can see Rose use her tarot cards in Street Fighter V at the 1:10 mark.

Street Fighter V is available for the PlayStation 4 and PC. The Rose DLC is out now.
