Steamboat Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan will have players exploring a grayscale world, seeking out creatures they can capture, tame, and train in order to fight back against the evil beasts that have stolen color from this cartoon world.
Chroma-crazed monsters have stolen color from the land, leaving it awash in gray. This leaves Steamboat Billy little choice but to set out on the seas in an adventure inspired by The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker, finding help from friendly creatures and monsters who can be caught and put to work for the player. The world is vast, though, so players will have to take quite some time to sail it. Luckily, players can fish for treasures and useful items while on the waves, although they’ll need to be careful not to get caught in a storm or run out of fuel.
Monsters form another part of the dangers of high seas travel. Luckily, players can acquire their own creatures to fight for them, collecting beasts of various rarities and abilities to use against their foes in turn-based combat. While being inspired by Pokemon in this regard, the game goes beyond strengths and weaknesses and adds some timing-based button presses to attacks and dodges, requiring the player stay involved in the combat.
When not in battle or exploring, players can customize their home island as well, creating useful shops and hangouts using materials the player collects. They’ll also be able to invite guest characters to visit the island or man the shops, allowing players to customize their home port and how it runs in various ways.
Steamboat Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan is currently raising development funding for its 1930’s animation-inspired look and adventurous gameplay on Kickstarter.
