Stardew Valley Saves Will Be Safe After Update 1.6

Eric “Concerned Ape” Barone took to social media to assure people that their Stardew Valley saves will be safe, as the files won’t be affected by update 1.6. This means people will still be able to maintain their longstanding farms without issue, though there is a new type of farm that will require a fresh save starting on March 19, 2024.

Here’s the announcement, which confirmed a save wipe won’t accompany 1.6.

In a follow-up reply, Concerned Ape noted that the new kind of farm does require someone to restart. That announcement didn’t note what type of farm it will be.

As a reminder, right now someone can choose a standard, beach, forest, four corners, hill-top, riverland, or wilderness farm as of 1.5.

The farm type confirmation is just one kind of new content that will appear. So will eight-player multiplayer, a new festival, and a new type of storage chest that is larger than ones we’d seen previously in the game.

Stardew Valley is available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PCs, mobile devices, and the PlayStation Vita. The 1.6 update will launch for PCs on March 19, 2024, and it won’t affect Stardew Valley saves when it does.
